If you did NOT receive any type of income in 2021 there is no need to file a tax return.

If you have a reason to file a tax return, you can still file now, even without an extension. You are just filing late. If you do not owe any tax, there is no penalty for filing late.

Even if you had no income, you must file a tax return if you received advance payments of the child tax credit or you received advance Premium Tax Credit for health insurance from the Marketplace.

Even if you are not required to file, you should file if you are eligible for the Recovery Rebate Credit or the refundable child tax credit.
