Married filing jointly with pre-marital assets

We recently got married this year and plan to file married filing jointly next year. We have rental properties in our individual names prior to getting married. How do we file joint taxes next year with pre-marital assets (401k, IRAs, brokerage accts, etc) if we also plan to do real estate deductions/write-offs? If it helps, located in Texas.

Married filing jointly with pre-marital assets

Hi @Anonymous ! The good news is that you don't really have to do anything different. You will include all rental properties on your joint return, whether they are owned by you or your spouse, including both income and deductions. Same goes for investment accounts. TurboTax will occasionally ask if accounts are owned by Taxpayer #1, Taxpayer #2, or "Both", simply answer as appropriate. Hope this helps!
