Married filing jointly; married in Nov 2018. Wife didn't have Health Insurance; she made less than $10,000. Must we be fined based on my income for unmarried months? Thx!

Unfortunately, if you file jointly, your combined income will be used and your wife will have to pay the ACA penalty for the months she was not covered by health insurance. The penalty will be calculated based on the combined income.

Had Marketplace insurance on self 2023, 2024. Got married 2024. Canceled coverage as of marriage. Why is there penalty. Income calc for me alone was legit.
