My partner and I got married in 2020, but never updated our W-4s. I'd like to update them in 2021 so that we aren't paying too much or too little each month.
We plan to file married filing jointly, and I am the breadwinner. Based on what I've read elsewhere, I think I am supposed to input the amount to withhold on my W-4. Does my partner then leave his W-4 blank?

I would wait and see how your 2020 Joint return comes out. When I worked I left my W4 as Single with 0 so they would still take out more. Do you both have any other income that doesn't take withholding out like interest, dividends, investments, etc?
Hi @VolvoGirl - No other income besides our primary occupations. Good call on waiting til we file our 2020 return. Thanks!
