Large amount difference between federal and state taxes

Our fed and state taxes are usually similar.  This year has a large gap.  Why?

We do not have access to your tax returns (nor should we).

I would go line by line through a copy of the 2017 Federal with the 2018 Federal.

And also do the same thing with the State returns.

Generally it is two things.  Change in income or change in taxes withheld.
