For the NY state extension, Turbotax gave me a link to a TurboTax website. Will my payment through TurboTax process or do I need to go to the NYS website to pay?

In using the software, when I get to the state extension, at the part where it tells me how much I need to pay along with my extension, it also gave me a link to a TurboTax website, where I can out my info in, the payment, and bank info.  All I got was a generic confirmation page.  Does this automatically submit payment to the NYS authority on my behalf or do I need to go to the state website?

Sounds like you took care of the federal extension.  For NY, go to the state website.  You can e-file an extension through the Department of Taxation and Finance. You can also print an extension with TurboTax that you'll mail in. Start your NY return (if you haven't already done so) and look for the extension question. If you don't see it, step through your NY return again from the beginning. The extension must be filed by April 15 and gives you another 6 months (October 15). If you owe them taxes, submit payment by April 15 to avoid penalties. You can pay when you e-file your extension or pay through their Online Services site.

No, this is not correct.  TurboTax directed me to a website, branded Turbotax and run by Intuit, that specifically said New York State.  I also received a confirmation email about New York State, but no receipt for payment.

And no, it was not phishing, unless the Turbotax software itself linked me to another site.  I am very tech savvy (work as a developer) so I know my way around websites and can tell with 100% certainty that this was a Turbotax linked site.

The confirmation email I received was also from Intuit and Turbotax.

That info came from this TurboTax article and you probably received a confirmation for federal.  <a rel="nofollow" target="_blank" href="https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1899449-do-i-need-to-file-a-state-extension-if-so-how-do-i-do-this...

It turns out that the Turbotax state extension did work, and did make payment to NY State - if I log into NY state, I can see the estimated payment.  However, please be aware that as I said, the Turbotax site and confirmation were SPECIFICALLY FOR NY State - I know it is not federal because (1) I did not file for federal extension using Turbotax, I did it directly with the IRS and (2) the email I got from Turbotax states "Your 2018 New York Personal Extension has been approved!"
