Is there a way to view my daughters Federal tax return without having to buy her state (I use Nc and she uses Va)?

If you would like to Preview her 1040 before you file, please follow these instructions in TurboTax:

1. Open your return. 
2. Click on Tax Tools.
3. Click on Tools.
4. Click on View Tax Summary under Other helpful links.
5. Click on Preview my 1040.

Im missing something. When I open my return in TurboTax deluxe I don't see any tax tools anywhere on the screen. There is a tools drop down menu with a tax summary selection but that displays a page that is fixed with no options to it.

My daughter emailed me her file that was password protected and when I try and open it in my license copy it wants me to buy the virginia state return software.  All I want to do is look at her federal return before she files it.  There is a pop window with error code 190.  It allows me to download the state (pay $45) or cancel. I don't want to have to pay for the state since I only want to look at her Federal return.  I guess its not possible to do this with the downloaded software from your site.  I have to be logged into the Intuit website.  I've logged in to the site but still didn't see the tax tools down the left side.

Sorry you are stuck.  Maybe ask support if they can give you the state download.  Or maybe she can save a copy of her file with another name and delete the state return so you can open it.  Try that.
