Online tax preparation and e-filing for 2020 returns will soon be permanently closed. You had until midnight on Friday, October 15 to finish and attempt to e-file a timely filed return; if your e-file was rejected you have until October 20 to make corrections and re-file to also be considered timely.
See this FAQ … seems like the online program will remain open a while longer this year for new returns and allowing efiling however they will be considered late filed …
If you have any changes/corrections at all to make to your 2020 return, you now have just a few days to finish using the online program before the online system closes for the 2020 returns. After that you will need to use the desktop software, which you must download to a full PC or Mac (not to a mobile device). Save the .taxfile ASAP so you can continue in the downloaded program and not have to start again from scratch.
If you already paid for your online software you can ask customer support for a download of the desktop software.

If you are getting a refund, there is no penalty for filing late. If you owe tax due, then file and pay the amount due as shown on the Form 1040, but expect a bill later from the IRS for the penalty and interest you will owe. Only the IRS will calculate this—TurboTax will not calculate it.
