They do not qualify because of their age.
To be a qualifying child for the 2024 tax year, your dependent must:
Thank you. I did realize they wouldn't qualify for the Child Tax Credit, but thought I read somewhere that they may qualify under the Other Dependent Tax Credit.
If they don't that's fine, I was concerned because under the credits and deductions section, one of the reasons they gave for them not qualifying was because their social security numbers were marked as invalid for employment. I've never gotten that before and want to make sure it won't affect anything if they need to file (we haven't received all of their W-2's yet). Thanks again for your previous response.
They can qualify as your dependents if they are under 19 no matter how much they make. Go back and check their info under My Info. You may have to delete them and add them again. There are a couple questions you could have answered wrong. Be sure you say their ssn is valid for employment.
Then was at least half of child's expenses paid by CHILD? Usually is NO, Child didn't pay for more than half of their living expenses.
Yes, if you have any tax liability they may qualify for the Other Dependent Credit (ODC). it is not a refundable credit so if your tax is lower than the credit the excess will not be refunded.
