The “senior deduction” is added automatically by the software based on the date of birth and filing status you entered into MY INFO. You do not need to take any extra steps to enter it. (And…the new senior deduction has nothing to do with whether you are getting Social Security)
2025 STANDARD DEDUCTION AMOUNTS
SINGLE $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
MARRIED FILING SEPARATELY $15,750 (65 or older/legally blind +1600)
MARRIED FILING JOINTLY $31,500 (65 or older/legally blind + $1600)
HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD $23,625 (65 or older/legally blind + $2000)
For 2025 through 2028 there is an extra deduction amount of up to $6000 per individual 65 or older filing Single, MFJ, or HOH which is phased out for taxpayers with modified adjusted gross income over $75,000 for single filers and $150,000 for joint filers.
(The deduction phases out completely at $175.000 Single or HOH, or $250,000 joint)
The $6,000 senior deduction will be calculated on 1040 Schedule 1-A page 2 Part V Enhanced Deduction for Seniors which goes to 1040 line 13b. It is separate and in addition to the Standard Deduction or your Itemized Deductions on 1040 line 12e. Turbo Tax automatically includes it.
IRS Schedule 1-A
https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-dft/f1040s1a--dft.pdf
So for MFJ the deduction is 33100 (std +65yrs) plus the 2025 $6000 ? My turbo tax did not account for the $6000 and I already files my taxes.
If you're Married Filing Jointly, and only you are over 65, you should see:
The $6,000 deduction is there. It is based on your date of birth in My Info
Social Security is still being taxed as it was in the past; however, there's a new $6,000 deduction for individuals older than 65 years old, a $12,000 deduction would apply to couples who qualify.
For more information, see Deductions for Seniors.
These are the qualifying factors to get the deduction:
If you and your spouse are both 65 or over, everything is evaluated for both of you.
@user17707904013 The Standard Deduction for Joint is $31,500 + 1,600 for each spouse over 65. So...
31,500 + 1,600 = 33,100 or
31,500 + 1,600 + 1,600 = 34,700
The + 2,000 is for Single or Head of Household.
The Standard Deduction will be on 1040 or 1040 SR line 12e
The new extra 6,000 or 12,000 (for both over 65) is on line 13b. What do you have on 13b?

Thanks my filed return does not show any amount on 13b . Would I need to file an ammend form?
If you are not getting the senior deduction it is because
Your date of birth in MY INFO shows that you were not 65 by the end of 2025
Your income is too high
You are filing married filing separately
Nope I'm almost 70yrs and 12d is checked for me.
Also income is just 81K for two.
12d is checked? 12d where? Ignore
"line 12d is checked for me...."
You are not looking at the right line. Look at your Form 1040. Line 12d only shows information about your date of birth or whether you were legally blind. Your standard deduction is on line 12e and the senior deduction is on line 13b.
As I stated before there is no amount on 13b. 12a and 14 have the same amount 33100
What software are you using...Desktop or Online?
IF Desktop...Windows or MAC.
i.e.....for desktop, might be time for a Manual Update (if on Windows Computer))
.............or (just guessing) a full uninstall-re-install???
