Is SSI considered in calucating income

This, from IRS Publication 907

Supplemental security income (SSI) payments .   Social security benefits do not include SSI payments, which are not taxable. Do not include these payments in your income.

But a lot of times people say ssi when they really mean SS or SSDI.  They are not the same thing.  If you got a SSA-1099 for it you have to enter it and up to 85% of it may be taxable.

True VolvoGirl, money reported on a 1099-SSA may be taxable.  To see if it is, enter the amount from your form in the Social Security section on Turbo Tax and it'll do the calculations, based on the rest of your income.  Thanks!

I know for a fact my husband didn't get approved for social security disability. he was only approved for ssi. We have recv'd form SSA 1099 for him and our children but I don't think Im supposed to file that.

Yes you have to enter the SSA-1099 for him on your Joint return.  The ones for the children only go on their returns if they have other income to report. If that is all they have then nobody reports theirs.

If he got a SSA-1099it is not ssi.  You don’t get a ssa-1099 for ssi, only for regular SS and SSDI.

To enter the SSA-1099 Try going to the search box by My Account and type in SSA-1099 or Social Security Benefits.  That will give you a Jump To link to take you directly to it.

OR
Enter a SSA-1099, SSA-1099-SM or RRB-1099  under
Federal Taxes on the left side
Wages and Income
Then scroll down to Retirement Plans and Social Security
