Is it possible that I had Alternative Minimum Tax last year and not this year? The biggest change is that I went from itemized deductions to standard deduction.

It is very possible that is the case. Due to the new tax law changes in 2018, people are less likely to be subject to AMT in 2018 than in 2017.
