Is it ok that I claimed 2 of my kids that only lived in the home for 5 months? No one else is claiming them and turbo tax said they qualified but I've read its not ok???

Yes, as the noncustodial parent and the other parent waived the right to claim the children.  You would be considered the noncustodial parent because they did not live with your for more than half the year.

As a noncustodial parent you are entitled to only the Child Tax Credit (not the Additional Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Tax Credit, which are both refundable).  If the children continue to live with you throughout 2018, then you will be the custodial  parent next year and entitled to these credits.

For 2017, you would be entitled to only the Child Tax Credit (nonrefundable but will reduce tax liability if you have any).
