NO!    If you have your refund sent to someone else's account, the bank will refuse the deposit and send it back to the IRS.  Then it will take weeks for the IRS to issue and mail a check to the address on your tax return.  If you do not have a bank account for a direct deposit at this time, then choose to have a check mailed to you in the first place so it will not be delayed.  Then you can cash the check or perhaps open a new bank account someplace and deposit the check.

NO. if your name is not on the account the direct deposit will be sent back to the iRS to issue a paper check. What do you mean your bank isn't working?
