Is injured spouse filled out corectly

You can be confident that TurboTax takes you step by step through the injured spouse form.  Double check that you have placed all the right income under the injured spouse (the one without the debt).

If you are not in a community property state, and both of you have income, you can divide exemptions up any way you see fit. It is possible the IRS may make some adjustments based on the income levels for each of you.  Let them do that when they receive it.  The standard deduction must be split between you so you can't change that part.

Reminders:

  1. If the injured spouse is the only one with income all of the refund will be released after IRS review of the Form 8379.
  2. If both spouses have income then part of the refund will be released after the IRS review.
  3. If the person who is injured, the one who does not owe the debt, has no income on the return then the injured spouse form will not help you.
  4. Review the screenshot attached for the initial important answers.
  • To review your information follow these steps in your TurboTax Free account.
    • My Account > Tools > Topic Search > Type injured spouse > Go (see the image attached)
    • Select the right person for injured spouse (this can hold it up if you select the person who owes the debt)
