What 24%? The winnings just add to your total income and you are taxed on the total income. Did you have withholding taken out when you won?
Yes I did. All but 3. I had 20 W-2G's. I thought it would take 24% for federal taxes for this alone. So, is it based on my total income?
Yes, the total income from your W2G forms is added to your other taxable income to determine your tax rate.
If you had tax withheld, that is added to the other payments or withholding on your tax return. The total amount is compared to the tax that you owe on your total income and then you either get a refund or owe more tax.
