The IRS says I short-payed my taxes by $8,000+ in 2023. The fines and interest comes to close to $3,000.
Apparently,as besy as I can determine, Turbotax did not pull all the dividens and capital gains data from my Vanguard account through their automatic download system. They did get some but they missed the larger amount.
I now learn this is a known issue between these two companies since Vanguard has changed their business model from a mutual fund company to a brokerage, which I never used.
I'm on the hook for this money (still have not heard from my state but assume I will get a similar statement from them soon enough) because I trusted them. I lost on that deal.
Just letting others know to double check their imported investment data or go back to the old way of typing it all in yourself to be sure it's accurate.
