"information worksheet: address cannot be entered directly on the illinois information worksheet for electronic filing. You must complete the federal information sheet."

This sounds like the kind of message you get in the Review of a state.

It appears that you can make the change or enter the missing piece of data right there in the Review, but instead you need to go to the original source of the data and enter it there.

For example, if this were referring to a pension/annuity distribution that Illinois needed some more information for, go back to the federal return and open the 1099-R in question and complete the data entry there.

Of course, we in the Community cannot see your tax return nor the screen you are on, so this is just an example. Please look at the Illinois message and determine where you would have entered this information on the federal return, and go and enter it there. Afterwards, go through your state return again to populate the missing information.

To change your address in TurboTax, and on the Federal return, follow these instructions:

While signed in and working with TurboTax:

  • Click on the My Info in the left had sided black menu
  • Scroll down, click on Edit next to Mailing Address
  • Change the address

When I tried to e-file, it took me to a page saying that I should not include my address on the Michigan Information Worksheet... that it would pull it from the federal.  So I deleted the street portion of the address (all it would let me do); click continue; then it sends me back to the same place and says I need to provide an address.

I went in circles for a while trying to fix this - so I'm not sure if I can remember exactly what worked.  But I think:

delete the item it wants deleted (for me it was street address); click continue; then, even though the fix button comes up again, click on My Info in the left column; delete all address info; continue; warning that you will need to enter this info - but can do it later; continue; file; fill in repeated prompts for address (because is missing from several places now that it was deleted in my info); successfully filed both federal and state (Michigan).

good luck.
