Incorrect standard deduction amount entered by Turbotax

Turbotax entered $33,100 for my standardized deduction on my federal return and $31,600 on my DC return.  But the married filing jointly standardized deduction amount for 2025 is $31,500.  Why is this happening and how do I fix it?

It sounds like one of you are 65 or over or are blind.  This would add $1,600 to the $31,500 standard deduction.

The DC amount would be $31,500 without the increase.  Are you seeing that or $31,600? If you are not seeing the increased amount for your DC return, have you gone all the way through it?  For DC, the schedule S must be included with your return to get the additional $1,600 deduction.  If this was not completed, you would not see the increase.  You would need to walk back through the steps of the personal info section of the state questions to answer any questions related to age or health. If you do not see any questions regarding age or health, you can click on the magnifying glass and search for DC schedule S.

Thank you for the advice.  You are correct.  I am over 65.  That explains the 33,100 federal standard deduction.  However, I am still having trouble with the DC standard deduction.  Turbotax still has 31,600 entered on line 18 of the DC D-40 form.  I found DC Schedule S as you suggested, but it was not filled out by Turbotax even though it knows that I am over 65 by my birthdate.  I went back through the questions for the DC return and nowhere does it ask whether I am over 65.  How can I include Schedule S with my return if Turbotax has not completed it?

Let's get the S to open, then it should pick up your birthdate. Follow these steps:

  1. Open your return to DC
  2. Sch S is also used for the pension and annuity exclusion along with many other things.
  3. Go back in and look for Pension and Annuity Exclusion.
  4. You may have an exclusion that needs to be entered. If not, enter $1 just to make the form exist.
  5. Look at your forms and verify Sch S exists now.
  6. Check to see if you have the increased deduction for seniors.
  7. If you truly have no pension or annuity deduction, remove the $1 and then check things again.

Incorrect standard deduction amount entered by Turbotax

Thanks for your advice.  I went into DC Schedule S and found the problem.  Turbotax incorrectly entered 30,000 on line a for the basic standard deduction amount rather than the correct 31,500.  Then it correctly entered a 1 on line b because I am 65 or older and then it correctly entered 1600 on line g to give me an incorrect total standard deduction on line h of 31,600.  How can I rectify this?

I checked the DC tax info and the standard deduction for married filing jointly is 30,000, therefore the Turbotax figures are correct, the total being 31,600 with the 65plus additional deduction.
