Imported the wrong 2024 TurboTax file into 2025. How do I manually override those values?

I inadvertently imported the wrong 2024 data when I started my 2025 form in TurboTax Premier Desktop and only realized it - of course - when I was done entering 2025 data and looked at the 2 year summary.  Previous forum discussions suggest there is no way to delete the 2024 data and re-import the correct file to my mostly complete 2025 file.  The suggested solution was to start over with 2025.  I have 5+ hours of work invested in 2025 and it is a very complicated return - many 1099's, Roth conversions, 457b withdrawals, rental income and expenses, etc ...  I know I need to override my erroneous 2024 AGI for eFiling purposes. And I also need to override erroneous 2024 numbers to calculate annualized installment income/estimated payments to avoid a state tax penalty.

Please tell me the simplest way to override the erroneous 2024 values in my 2025 file.  E.g. are they all contained on a single worksheet? Or are they scattered throughout on various forms.  If so, how do I find them all?

The only way to delete 2024 (prior year) data that you imported into your 2025 return would be to delete all the forms and schedules that had prior year data.  Obviously, this would also delete your 2025 data.  Moreover, I don't know (and I'm skeptical) that you would even be able to delete all of it.  You can try using Forms mode and make adjustments to forms and schedules that are used in calculations like installment income.  That said, my recommendation is to bite the bullet and start a new 2025 return and import the correct 2024 return.

Imported the wrong 2024 TurboTax file into 2025. How do I manually override those values?

Thank you DavidD66.  There are only a few values that I need to override (AGI, prior year taxes owed), so I'm still hoping there is a simpler way.   I don't see a way to search the forms inside of TurboTax, so I'm thinking of saving the 2025 return to a .pdf file including all the forms and worksheets and then searching that for '2024' to see how many corrections will be required.

Follow-up:

Manually overriding the incorrect 2024 values on a couple of worksheets did the trick and only required an hour of time.  It helped to print out the 2025 .pdf to search for '2024' instances, then find them in TurboTax and update manually.  Also helped to have my correct 2024 all forms .pdf on hand to copy the values from.

You used the term "manually overriding".    Are you referring to the actual "override" feature of TurboTax, or do you just mean you edited some data?    If some data on a form was not readily editable, and if you used the actual override feature to change it, be aware that it may not let you efile.

Switch to Forms mode and go to the Carryover Worksheet, where much of the info for 2024 is kept, like AGI and tax payments after year-end. Check everything on this worksheet. Then it's a question of any other data that was transferred to 2025, which would be incorrect. That will be on the individual forms and worksheets, which can be changed in forms mode.

mesquitebean - Thank you for taking time to reply.  To clarify, I was able to simply edit all the 2024 values except for one number - Total Itemized Deductions in the Two-Year Comparison sheet.  I overrode this value with the correct number.  Oddly, I was able to simply edit the same number in the Carryover Worksheet - that one didn't require an override.

We used Std Deduction in 2024 and will use again in 2025, so hopefully this value won't prevent e-filing??

Thank you Mike 9241.  As you say, I found most of the 2024 imported values on the Carryover Worksheet and then a few more/duplicates on the Two-Year Summary Worksheet.  I did a search for '2024' in my .pdf of all forms from the 2025 return and of the 68 instances, these were the only ones tied to actual data.   Not sure if TurboTax stores the imported 2024 data somewhere else within the 2025 data file (i.e. that doesn't show up on an actual form).  I'll definitely be double checking any of the 2025 calculations that use 2024 data before filing.  What a pain - I won't make this mistake again...will undoubtedly make others.

I suspect the reason it wouldn't let you edit on the 2-year history is because it was flowing from the other worksheet.    In many cases, to edit a number you have to go back to the source worksheet.   Even if corrected on another worksheet, an overridden value on the destination form won't change.  If you have now corrected it on the carryover worksheet, see if you can remove the override from the 2-year history and see if it now shows the correct value without an override.

mesquitebean - Thank you for that suggestion.  I found that, even after editing the value for 2024 Total Itemized Deductions in the Carryover Worksheet, it still required an Override to correct the value in the Two Year Comparison form.  Clicking on the number in that form to find out the data source of the value, it only defines the source for the 2025 value.  I suspect the problem is due to the change in treatment of state income, sales, real estate and personal property taxes from 2024 (where they were limited to $10,000) and 2025 (limit increased to $40,000).  At least that accounts for the difference in my numbers from the correct 2024 and the incorrect 2024 values I inadvertently imported.
