Sorry, but since you failed to keep a PDF last year when it was free to get you have to pay for the upgrade to get it now.  This was explained to you last year when you passed on the PLUS option.

When does access to my prior-year TurboTax Online returns expire?

If you filed your most recent TurboTax Online return in:

  • 2016 Federal Free Edition (without PLUS), if you don't add PLUS, Deluxe, Premier, or Self-Employed in tax year 2017, access to your 2016 return will end on the date of filing.
  • 2016 Federal Free Edition (with PLUS), you can access all your prior-year online returns through October 31, 2018.
  • 2016 Deluxe, Premier, or Self-Employed, you can access all your prior-year online returns through October 31, 2018.
  • 2015 Federal Free Edition (without PLUS), you only have access to your 2015 return through December 31, 2016, but no prior year returns.
  • 2015 Federal Free Edition (with PLUS), you can access all your prior-year online returns through October 31, 2017.
  • 2015 Deluxe, Premier, or Home & Business, you can access all your prior-year online returns through October 16, 2017.
  • 2014 or earlier, regardless of edition, would've expired October 18, 2016 at the latest unless you continue to add PLUS to your Federal Free Edition or use Deluxe, Premier or Self-Employed in subsequent tax years.

To regain access to any prior-year return, you can pay 2016 PLUS, Deluxe, Premier, or Self-Employed preparation fee. This gives you access to all your TurboTax Online returns, both past and present, through October 31, 2018.  If you don't add PLUS, Deluxe, Premier, or Self-Employed in tax year 2017, access to your 2016 return will end on the date of filing.
