Im an american citizen living and working in germany preparing my 2016 tax return. do i have to file a W2? i do not have a employer ID number.

No, if they do not issue a W-2 or 1099 you can still enter your foreign source income by following these steps:

How to Enter Foreign Income

• Go to Federal Taxes

• Select Wages & Income

• Click I'll choose what I work on

• Scroll down the page to the last section Less Common Income and select Show More

• Select Start to the right of Foreign Earned Income and Exclusion

• Go through this section and enter the income that you earned abroad.
