Our taxes have been filed with a period after my wife's middle intial. Turbotax does not let us do that. What are the recommendations?

Ignore the period -- it should work. And if IRS rejects, then send in proper ID document to prove. Gnerally the period is ignored in filings ( e-files and/ or software prep ).
