Reject code IND-517

So if my 20 YO daughter mistakenly claimed an exemption for herself (she made ~$4000 during her summer job), then I cannot claim her as an exemption?
So she would need to go back into her tax return and edit it for me to be able to file?
What happened
IND-517 - A Dependent SSN in the return must not be the same as the Primary or Spouse SSN on another return where the Primary Taxpayer or Spouse was claimed as an exemption

Your dependent filed a return without saying he could be claimed on your return and your return was rejected?  AFTER his return has been fully processed and he has received his refund, he has to file an amended return that says he can be claimed as a dependent on someone else’s return.  Amended returns (form 1040X) have to be printed and mailed.  They cannot be e-filed; it takes the IRS a couple of months to process them.  Meanwhile, since your e-filed return has been rejected, you now have to print and mail it in to the IRS.  You will not be able to e-file.  Remember that when you mail a return, you need to include copies of your W-2, etc. with your return.

If your daughter meets the tests to be claimed by you, she cannot claim herself. If she did claim herself, she must prepare, print and mail an amended tax return form 1040X to indicate that she can be claimed by someone else. If she made less than $4000, the change will have not affect on her taxes because she would not have a tax liability in either case.

You can claim her on your tax return but you will have to print and mail it to get it accepted. It takes up to 16 weeks for an amended return to be processed so you can't wait that long to try to efile your return again and get it accepted.
