If you’re seeing an amount next to Other Income Taxes, this is normal. This amount is the total of taxes you’ve already paid based on information you’ve entered so far, such as withholding amounts from your W-2 or estimated taxes you’ve paid in advance.
You may be seeing these:
Taxes paid through extensions - If you filed an extension and paid taxes with the extension, these amounts affect your 2016 tax return:
Amount you paid with your 2016 federal extension
Amounts you paid with your 2016 state and/or local extensions
Amounts you paid with your 2015 state and/or local extensions
Refund amount applied to your tax bill - If you had the government keep some or all of your tax refund for 2015 and apply it to your 2016 taxes, these amounts will appear on your 2016 return:
2015 federal refund applied to your 2016 tax bill
2015 state and/or local refunds applied to 2016 tax bill
Withholding taxes from your W-2 and 1099 forms - These amounts are automatically pulled from the information you enter from your W-2 and 1099 forms.
Other state and local taxes- Other Income Tax can also include these amounts:
State and local taxes paid with your 2015 state and/or local taxes in 2016 (including amended returns).
State and local income taxes paid in 2016 for prior year returns. For example, if you were audited or you recently filed a prior year state or local return for the first time.
State and local taxes that were withheld during 2016 but not reported on Form W-2, 1099, W-2G, etc. For example, state and local taxes that were withheld when you completed a real estate transaction.
