If you are not married, have separate residence, have two children 50/50 custody, can you claim one child each, head of household for each?

It depends.  The key is the dates a child lived with each of you.  You are allowed to file as head of household if your child lived with your for more than half the year and you provided more than half the cost of the home. Below is a link to see the rules for head of household filing status and the qualifying dependent/child.
