A software update is expected later today or tomorrow for entering overtime pay.  And ...... you need your W-2.  Do not try to prepare a tax return using only a pay stub.

After you enter a W2 it will ask if you have any uncommon situations. Check the top box for overtime. Then you can enter the total amount and it  will calculate just the overtime part.

Be aware, all overtime is not excludable from income.  Only the half-time portion.  And only half-time, not more.  And only if you work more than 40 hours.  For example,

  1. If you are paid $20 per hour and work 45 hours, and get paid $30 for your overtime hours, only the extra $10 per hour x 5 hours is excludable from income, not the entire $30 x 5 hours.
  2. If you work 45 hours and get paid double time ($40 per hour), only half-time is eligible for the exclusion ($10/hour x 5 hours).
  3. If you work 40 hours in the week, and one of those days is a holiday and you get paid time and a half on the holiday, that is not eligible because you did not work over 40 hours.
  4. If you are a salaried worker (exempt from the FLSA), then none of your overtime is eligible for the deduction.  That's because overtime is only eligible if it is required by the FLSA.  If you are an exempt worker, your overtime is not required by law, but is a benefit provided by contract, and since it is not required by law it is not eligible.

For this year you will have to calculate your eligible overtime yourself.  Next year it will be reported on your W-2 by your employer.
