If my son was incarcerated for 10 months in the year, how should I document this on my taxes?

You cannot claim him as a dependent since you did not provide over one-half of his support.  Remove him as a dependent on your tax return.

There is nothing for you to document on your tax return.   Remove him as a dependent if he is there.   You cannot claim him since he was not supported by you and did not live with you.   He was supported by the correctional facility that he lives in.   Any money that you provided for incidental expenses was a gift to him, which is not deductible.

You do not indicate anything on you own return. If you file a return for him, follow then proceed with the following.

After you enter the W-2, you will find a screen with uncommon situations. Merely click on "inmate or halfway house". [Edited 2/2/22|3:7PM EST]

Please disregard the suggestion to mark your own W-2 as having been received as an inmate.   YOU were not an inmate.   You said that your SON was incarcerated.   That does not affect the way you enter your own income.
