If I have to create a new account, how will my information from previous returns be transferred into the current year tax return?

You would be best to start a new account with a different user ID instead of trying to use an old account that was previously used to file a joint return. Trying to remove all the information from a spouse is too hard and messy. You will not be able to transfer 2017 data; you will start fresh from "scratch."
