If my earnings, my deductions and my credits are similar over the last few years, why is my refund so small?

Compare the amount of withholdings this year vs last year.  Go to Form 1040 line #64 Federal income tax withheld on both your 2015 and 2016 tax returns. When earnings, deductions, and credits are similar from year to year a decrease in your refund is usually a result of less withholdings from earnings on W-2 forms.  If you are using TurboTax online you can access your 2016 Form 1040 by
