If my child didn't live with us in 2018, but, her permanent address is the same as mine, can I claim her as a dependent?

You may be able to, but it depends on your situation.  Please see the TurboTax FAQ "Does a dependent have to live with me?" below to see if your child qualifies as your dependent.

If your child actually lives with his/her other parent, the other parent is considered the custodial parent by the IRS. The custodial parent has the primary right to claim the child.  The non-custodial parent cannot claim the child unless the custodial parent relinquishes his/her right by providing the non-custodial parent with a completed IRS Form 8332, or unless it's spelled out in a pre-2009 divorce decree.

Thank you for the information, but we are married, and live together.

What are the details?  Is she away at school?  Time at school counts as living with you.

What seems to be holding us up is the fact that she made over $4100.  If they make more than that, you can't claim them as a dependent

You can claim them if they are under 24 and a full time student no matter how much they make.  So how old is she?  Is she a full time student?

She is a full time student under 24.  She doesn't live with us.  Turbotax won't let us claim her.

Go back and delete her.  Then re add her, you must have answered a question wrong.  Time away at school counts as living with you.

Does she live with you when she's not away at school?
