By law, you can file either married filing separately or married filing jointly, since you were married at the end of the year.  However, you're liable to get more tax breaks by filing jointly.  Please see the TurboTax FAQ below, and I'd also suggest clicking on the "Why would I want to file separately" and "Want to Compare?' links in the article.
