If I owe state an federal taxes an wanted to choose the checks option for paying the balance would I have to get to separate checks one for federal and one for state?

You ALWAYS get separate payments from any refund --one from the Fed (IRS) and one from the state.

They are separate and come from 2 different places.

or

If you owe, you have to send 2 separate payments --one to the Fed (IRS) and one to the state.

They are separate taxing entities.
