The term "home of record" is generally used for members of the military. If you are living away from your parents' home while you are away at college, your parents can still say you live with them at home. Living away at school is considered to be a "temporary absence."
If you work while at school and earn income in that state, you might have to file state tax returns in both states----but we would need to know which states.
