If I’m filing for 2019 and I had my son in 2020 for the question on do I have kids for a dependent would I put no?

Correct. You will not be able to claim your son until year 2020. Dependency is based on the status on December 31 of the tax year. If he is currently your only dependent, you do not have any to claim for tax year 2019.

Your dependent must have been born alive in 2019 to be claimed as a dependent on a 2019 tax return.
