If I lived out of state in another for part of the year as a volunteer and did not make any income, do I need to report it?

I lived out of state for 8 months of the year in another state doing free volunteer work and did not make any money. Do I still need to report that I was out of state at the time? It is asking me to mail in a return but I have zero money to report.

No, you do not have to file a tax return for a state where you had no earned income.
