If I had a disability that prevented working in 2024, but have recently had surgery that may allow me to work in future is that considered permanent for my taxes?

I've received SSA disability in 2025. But there is a chance in 5 or 6 months after healing from my surgery, I may be able to go back to work, but it is unknown at this time, depending upon possible limitations and healing.

If you did not work in 2024 and did not have any taxable income for 2024, you are not required to file a 2024 tax return unless you have  1095A for marketplace health insurance.

Who has to file?

If you receive Social Security disability in 2025, and return to work as well, then your SSA1099 from Social Security and your income from working will be entered on a 2025 tax return.
