Claim them for what? You cannot get child-related credits like child tax credit or earned income credit if you did not earn any income. If you had no income how were you and the children supported? Are you and the children being claimed as someone else's dependents?
@xmasbaby0 - but isn't this year going to be different?...even if a taxpayer has sources of income that are not taxable (e.g. alimony post 2018, child support, cash sitting in the bank that doesn't generate a lot of taxable income, social security disability, etc, I am sure I can come up with other examples) that would normally preclude filing a tax return, the only remaining path to get any stimulus that made not have been paid out is to file a 2020 tax return, right????
What I was trying to find out is what you are trying to accomplish by claiming children. If you yourself are someone else's dependent then you cannot get stimulus money for yourself or for the children. Dependent cannot get stimulus checks. If you have some sort of income and are not being claimed as a dependent by someone else, and are asking because you are seeking a way to get stimulus money--that is a different situation.
So the question is still---can someone else claim you as a dependent----if you had literally NO income, then how have you and your children been supported?
