You may have indicated on your W-4 for work that you have a child ---- that W-4 only goes to your employer. Yes, if you are claiming a dependent, you have to enter the child's information on your tax return. Enter the child's information in My Info when you prepare your return.
Make sure you have entered your child as a dependent in My Info, and that you have entered the child's Social Security number. Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment. If your child was born in 2023 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year. There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support. Say NO to that question.
So even they they haven’t been taking out much taxes from my paycheck since I’ve been claiming my child though out the year i would still claim him at the end of the year?
@lake734518 Yes----is this your first child? Have you not filed a tax return claiming a dependent before now? You have to enter your child's information onto your tax return in order to receive various child-related credits such as the child tax credit, earned income credit, childcare credit.....
Go to My Info-----same place in the software where you entered your own name, SSN, address etc. and choose that you want to enter a dependent. You will need to enter your child's name, date of birth, Social Security number, etc.
