If I checked married on w4, can I still efile as married but filing separate?

Husband and I both selected married on w4. We are still married but our return has sucked the last couple years and a friend recommended we file separate. Can we file separate this year even if we checked married on W4, or is the status on the w4 irrelevant to how we efile?

The status on the W-4 that you entered is not relevant to the filing status you enter on your tax return.

Before deciding on filing separately, which is the worst way to file when married, see this TurboTax support FAQ for filing jointly versus separately - https://ttlc.intuit.com/questions/1894449-is-it-better-for-a-married-couple-to-file-jointly-or-separ...
