Information flows from your federal return to your state return. When you entered your W-2 (s) into the federal program did you enter ALL the boxes including boxes 15, 16 and 17 that showed your state tax information?
Your federal and state taxes are separate from one another. They have different withholdings and your income is taxed separately between the two.
Did you go through and answer all the questions in the state section? If not, click on the state taxes tab and walk through the steps to answer your Missouri Questions.
Did you enter the state numbers from your W2? If not, then go back and select edit next to your W-2 and finish entering the information.
Do you have a tax liability for the state? It is possible that your employer withheld the exact right amount for your income. However, since MO has a graduated tax rate, this is not the most likely scenario.
Is your income MO nontaxable income? MO has a Pension Exclusion. If your total Missouri adjusted gross income less than $32,000 if married filing combined; $16,000 if married filing separate; or $25,000 if single, head of household, or qualifying widow(er). Social Security is also excluded from income if you are over 62.
