If I am ready to file my taxes but I missed the April deadline, do I have to file an extension to get my refund?

No. and it's too late to file an extension. as long as you file in the next several years you are entitled to your refund. i Wouldnt wait to file because the IRS is far behind in processing returns. so the later you file the later you'll get it. while Turbotax states 21 days, even the IRS acknowledged earlier this year that many refunds would take longer

You have until 10/15/22 to efile the 2021 return  or until 4/15/25 to mail it in and get the refund.

You can't get an extension of time after Tax Day, April 15th.
