Your son is a qualifying person to allow you to claim head of household only if

1. he is disabled an unable to earn a gainful living, and he lives with you more than half the year, or

2. he earned less than $4050 in 2016, AND you paid more than half his total living expenses.

Is your son your dependent?  Did he earn less than $4050 in 2016?  Did you pay over 50% of the costs to support the household?
