My kids are grown. I don't have any W-2s. Why would i get a big refund?

What did you enter on a tax return? DID you receive a tax refund? And by "SSI" do you actually mean Social Security Disability?

If you have no income from working and only get SSI, then you would not be able to file a tax return as you would have no taxable income unless you had taxes withheld from your SSI.

Without earned income, even as a student, you would not get a refund of anything other than taxes you had withheld.

If you are seeing a refund, double check to be sure you didn't enter your SSA-1099 as a W2.
