The Employer State ID, box 15 is blank on my W-2 form.

What isn't blank in Boxes 15 to 17 of your W2? What do you see in those boxes?

In box 15 it reads 'IL WH' and no number, in 16 my wages and 17 has my state income tax

Oh I see.. Did you ask your employer why there's no real number? Did you try just using the federal FEIN?

I haven't tried either of those options yet but I can try to enter the employer identification number

I don't personally live near IL, but I found a client's IL W2 from  prior year. The IL EIN may be 6 numbers. No "WTH". Do you see that anywhere on your W2, maybe on a second or third page?

I would ask the employer first. Do you have a W2 from them for last year?

I do not, first year of employment there. Should I contact HR?

Yes, that would be best. They should have a real number for that box.

HR said it is the same number as the EIN

If you don't have state wages due to being in FL, TX, TN, WA, or any other state that doesn't have a personal tax.... leave everything blank in Turbo Tax. Don't type in anything in those fields inside Turbo Tax.
