I was tracking my own hours and submitting them myself to who I was working under... essentially self-employed, but since things didn't work out nothing was finalized as a private business. It is a very particular trade skill and I was essentially taking under a mentors wing to see if I was cut out for it, it was a rather short trial period in retrospect before settling that it wasn't the career move for me. Is their a simple way to report these earning and make sure the IRS is getting all taxes owed?

You can report your own self-employed income on Schedule C using your personal name as the "business name".
You do not need a 1099 to report the income and you can report expenses incurred in association with the venture.
Type Schedule C in the Search box and then select the Jump to link. This will take you to where you can enter any cash, personal checks, credit card payments, or cryptocurrency (Form 1099-K) related to your self-employment. You may first be asked some general questions about your business. After you answer them, you’ll be taken to the Let's enter the income for (your line of work) screen where you can enter this income as Other self-employed Income.
