I work as private pay caregiver
dotsy31, Based on your post I assume that what your employer/custome/client gave you is a 1099-MISC. Even if they did not give you a 1099-MISC, the process is the same.
You are treated as a selfemployed and therefore you file a Schedule-C with your normal return to recognize the income that you have had. All you have to do in TurboTax is to say that you have self-employment income and it will walk you through filling out the schedule-C ( you will need a business category -- can use 99999. a business name-- can be your own name, address -- can be your home ) the schedule-SE. The resultant income will then flow to your form 1040, 1040-A and you will be taxed on the net income from the Self-employment. Note that against this "self-employment/ business" income you can deduct all actual expenses associated with this earning effort --> e.g. mileage to and from place of work ( must have a diary or something to prove ), uniform , room in your home that you use as a office to contact employers and keep your accounts etc. etc. The easiest way to handle this space ( exclusively and habitually used for business only ) is to accept the IRS guideline of $5 per sq.ft. The schedule SE will take care of the SECA ( the medicare and social security tax for the self employed -- it is 15.3% on most of your net income). So you should be OK -- if you need more help, please add to this thread and one of us will help you out -- good luck
