You can use this TurboTax calculator to get a rough estimate of your tax refund or taxes owed - https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/calculators/taxcaster/

Or you can complete as much as possible a tax return to find out if you will get a refund or have taxes owed.  There is no penalty for filing a tax return after the due date if you have a tax refund.

You have to pay any taxes owed on a federal tax return on or before April 18, 2017 to avoid any late payment penalties and interest owed on the unpaid amounts.  Go to this IRS website for various payment options - https://www.irs.gov/payments

Use the IRS Form 4868 for an extension request to file a 2016 tax return.  The extension request gives you a 6 month extension for filing the tax return on or before October 16, 2017, not an extension for paying any taxes owed.

Go to this IRS website for Form 4868 - https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f4868.pdf
