I was wondering if I am eligible for a stimulus check from the coronavirus emergency plan? My mom claimed me last year because I lived with her for most of 2019 until November of 2019, but I now live

at an apartment with two roommates and have my own bills to pay with no other financial support.

if she claims you as a dependent you will not get a stimulus check but see below  if you she can claim you, on your return you must check that box and again won't get the stimulus but see below

if you meet the following tests she can claim you so you must check the box you can be claimed

you would be her qualifying child if the following test are met

Qualifying child

  • Related
  •  Same principal abode as taxpayer for more than ½ the tax year.  Temporary absences like for school are ignored
  • If not a full-time student, under 19 at the end of the tax year.  If a full-time student under 24 at end of tax year.  

Full -time means an individual who during each of 5 calendar months during the calendar year in which the taxable year of the taxpayer begins is a full-time student at an educational organization described in section 170(b)(1)(A)(ii), or is pursuing a full-time course of institutional on-farm training under the supervision of an accredited agent of an educational organization described in or of a State or political subdivision of a State.

  • she has provided over ½ your support

 

now some positive news.  it appears that what is being sent out now is an advance. the actual credit you'l be entitled to will be computed using your 2020 return. from that there will be subtracted the amount of advance you got ( which may be 0 in your case) so when you file your 2020 return you'll get a refundable credit.
