Do you have a TurboTax Online account?

We'll help you get started or pick up where you left off.

I was waiting for the FIN for one of my employers, all I want to do is add the info. I'm not changing anything and I haven't technically filed yet. Now I can't e-file?

Unfortunately, you will need to choose the File By Mail option if you do not have the W-2.  When you don't have the W-2 to electronically file, you have to use a 'substitute' W-2 Form 4852 and that form cannot be e-filed.  Someone in HR should be able to get the actual W-2 so that you can e-file.

If you e-file a return with ''close'' numbers, your tax return will be held and probably for much longer than it would take to file by mail.  So either file by mail, or get that W-2.  Otherwise, you are looking at a long wait.

If you get the W-2, you will need to uncheck that box that says ''substitute'' in TurboTax.  How do I file a substitute W-2 using Form 4852?

What's the issue?  You can't e-file with a substitute W-2 form....

I never got a W-2, so I've been waiting for a phone call from the employer's HR dept. Using my last paystub I was able to get very close BUT had the blank bugging the software.

If they send my w-2 and the 4852, I still haven't filed so am I still stuck filing by mail? The IRS said it will be about a week or two, after the employer gets the letter. Might be a washout time wise but I'm pretty broke...

If you have not filed and you get the W-2, you can e-file - you won't need the 4852 if you have the real W-2.
